Shania Mortensen has been a part of the dance community since she was three years old. Her
journey began at the Premier Dance Academy in Madison, and she then became a competition
dancer at the Madison Professional Dance Center (MPDC) in Madison where she earned
numerous awards and trained in ballet, pointe, hip hop, jazz, tap, lyrical, contemporary, and
modern. She attended intensives at DanceWorks Chicago and River North Dance Chicago and
was one of thirty dancers picked to participate in Florida State University’s Summer Dance
Intensive in Tallahassee, FL. She has had the opportunity to work with renowned artists such
as Randy Duncan, Cesar Salinas, Julie Nakagawa, Casper, J.P. Tenuta, Chris Xayarath, Hanna
Brictson, Millicent Johnnie, Tyrone Brooks, and Suzanne Farrell. Her favorite teaching styles
are jazz, hip hop and tap and she is very excited to be joining SCA to share her love of dance
with her students!
Shania recently graduated from Baylor University in Waco, TX with a Cell and Molecular Biology
– Pre-Med degree and is currently pursuing her Master’s in Biomedical Science at Nova
Southeastern University located in Fort Lauderdale, FL. Her ambition is to go to medical school
and become a forensic pathologist. In addition to being a full-time graduate student and
teaching at SCA, she is working at St. Mary’s Hospital in Madison.
