Michael Dobiel

Michael is a saxophonist and woodwinds performer, composer, and educator. A recent transplant to the Madison area, he spent over 10 years as a musician and educator in the Boston, MA area. Michael holds degrees from the University of Louisville in Louisville, KY and Westfield State University in Westfield, MA. He is a versatile educator, able to teach woodwinds, brass, piano, and electric bass. Michael adapts lessons to the needs of each student. He emphasizes musical fundamentals, while collaborating with students to identify their goals. His experience has shown him that when students participate in goal setting, the outcome is generally enriched appreciation and understanding of their instrument.

As a performer and composer, Michael collaborated with numerous organizations and ensembles during his time in Massachusetts, including Priscilla Beach Theatre, Serious Play! Theatre and Ensemble, the Luna Collective, Puppet Showplace Theatre, and many more. He is also active as a composer and performer of his own music. As a performer he has also premiered new works by living composers, and frequently performs in jazz groups, pit orchestras, and classical ensembles.
