Mezzo-soprano Madison Barrett is an active performer in both the operatic, musical theatre, and cabaret fields. She was recently seen performing with companies including Ohio Light Opera, Four Season’s theatre, Madison Bach Musicians, the Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra, The Middleton Community Orchestra, and Middleton Player’s Theatre among others. Madison is currently pursuing her Doctorate of Musical Arts degree with a minor in German and linguistics at the University of Wisconsin-Madison where she holds the prestigious Collins Fellowship and she holds a Master of Music from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a Bachelor’s of Arts in Voice Performance from the University of Florida.
She was awarded the Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) Fellowship in 2021 and was named a finalist in the Patricia Crump Vocal Competition. In 2024, Madison was awarded a Uhlein Career grant from Supporters of Singers for her creative and performance work on her Take Me to the World Cabaret at the Ivory Room Piano Bar. She is also passionate about working with contemporary composers and recently premiered the mezzo-soprano version of Juliana Hall’s song cycle “Winter Windows” and the mezzo-soprano version of Sarah Hutchings’ song cycle “In Seasons of Life’s Pursuit”.
Madison currently teaches at Beloit College, Stoughton Center for the Arts, and MAVEN vocal arts and maintains an active voice studio based in Madison, Wi. Her number one priority as a teacher is to encourage creative, comfortable, and collaborative teaching environments where students feel free to fully explore their voice. Madison’s teaching style is pedagogically based and rooted in current voice science research. As a crossover artist, she is passionate about teaching a myriad of musical genres and styles to uplift each student’s artistic and musical goals.
