Online Learning with SCA

As we venture into the month of April, we have fully switched online!  Below I have listed tools that we will be using during this time.

We feel that creating a sense of normalcy and consistency is extremely important at this time for your dancer, musician, or actor.

We have created these classes with their regular SCA faculty to keep that normalcy and consistency, but are also trying to be a bit more flexible knowing that many of you have had some scheduling shifts as of late.

We also understand that online learning is not quite the same as in person training, so we will be offering some ‘value added extras’ in addition.  Please review each individual department tab to see how to access your online classes and lessons.

We have all been affected by this, in some way, to some degree.  As a small business owner, it has been an interesting time and quite the challenge, but I also see it as a great opportunity in so many ways.  I see it as an opportunity to reach out to our students in a new way, an opportunity to create a strong SCA community, and perhaps most important – an opportunity for us to give you parents a break in your day while your children take an SCA class.

At this time, we are looking to resume in person classes on April 27th.  If that changes, we will let you know.

Tools for Online Learning

  1. Band App – an online community of SCA faculty, parents, and students.  Available for phone, tablet, and browser.
    There are many online communities available, including ones like Facebook Groups.  I have chosen to use this one for many reasons:
    a. I wanted students to be a part of the community as well, so that they could interact with their teachers and perhaps even other students in their class.
    In wanting a safe online place for all of them, I thought this to be the best choice.
    b. In this time, not everyone is using Facebook.  I wanted an online community where people wouldn’t have to venture into Facebook land to connect to us.
    c.  Facebook can have many distractions!  This will help keep the students focused.
  2. Google Classroom – all of our pre-recorded dance classes and drama class information will be housed in Google Classroom.  We will also have some extra activities and videos for our music students in Google Classroom.
  3. Skype, Zoom, Google Hangouts or FaceTime (when available) – for our music students and other private students.

Instructions on signing up for these services will be sent in our email newsletters.

Join us for Online Learning!

All of our group dance classes will be pre-recorded and available online, to allow you to choose exactly when is best for your dancer to take the class.  Classes can be taken as many times as you like, and please see ‘Extra Values’ below for an added surprise!
Classes will be slightly shorter than a regular length class, simply because there’s no social interaction in a pre-recorded class.  Therefore 30 minutes classes will be about 20 minutes, 45 minute classes will be about 30, and 60 minute classes will be about 45 minutes.  However, again – read below in ‘Extra Values’!!

  1. Download the Band App to your phone, tablet, or use in a browser at band.us.  We encourage both the parent and the student to do so!  You will receive an invite to our SCA Band Community in an email newsletter.
  2. Watch for the links to Google Classroom via the Band App and via email…information for each week’s class and links to the videos for those classes will be in Google Classroom.

Extra Values – What exactly are you getting for your tuition?

As we all get through this unusual time, we’d like to offer you some extra items of value!

  • 5 weeks of online dance classes
  • Access to multiple classes beyond your regular dance class!   For example, a 5-7 year old ballet student taking ballet once a week may have access to as many as 3-4 ballet classes for their level.  Classes may be taught by different SCA faculty, but take as many as you like!
  • The convenience of taking these classes whenever you’d like!
  • Additional videos such as ‘How to do Showcase makeup’, ‘How to do Showcase hair’, and more!
  • Once we have resumed classes, we will offer two weeks where you can attend other classes throughout the week as makeups.
  • We will be offering all Showcase music to our students free of charge this season.  If you purchased music already this season, your account will be credited.  We will be emailing you access to the Showcase music soon so that everyone can practice their Showcase dances!

At this time, the Annual Dance Showcase is still set for May 29th and 30th.  We will communicate any changes if they occur.

We will be offering our music students private online lessons with their SCA music teacher!  Please read below for information and what you need to sign up for a time slot.  Due to the unusual circumstances, our teachers have needed to change their availability.

  1. Download the Band App to your phone, tablet, or use in a browser at band.us.  We encourage both the parent and the student to do so!  You will receive an invite to our SCA Band Community in an email newsletter.
  2. You will be sent a link via email to schedule your lesson.  Choose your son/daughter’s instructor, pick your preferred day and time, and what platform you’d like to use for the lesson (Skype, Zoom, Google Hangouts, and FaceTime when available).
  3. Join your teacher at your scheduled day and time!
  4. Contact us if you have any questions at all!  You are always welcome to email Miss Stephanie or Miss Natalie with questions!

Extra Values – What exactly are you getting for your tuition?

As we all get through this unusual time, we’d like to offer you some extra items of value!

  • 5 weeks of private online instruction
  • the convenience of choosing a day/time that works for you
  • We will be scheduling one in person makeup lesson for all music students once we return.  More information on this in the coming weeks!

At this time, we will be postponing the Annual Music Showcase that was scheduled for April 19th at the Stoughton Opera House.  Please continue to practice your showcase pieces, as we are looking at rescheduling for May or June!  More details to come.

As we all get through this unusual time, we’d like to offer you some extra items of value!

  • 5 weeks on online drama instruction
  • For some of those 5 weeks, rather than being a group setting will be individualized – more of a private drama coaching session!
  • We will be adding a Saturday morning practice/rehearsal once we return to help with makeups.

At this time, the Annual Drama Showcase is still set for June 6th at the Stoughton Opera House.  If anything changes, we will communicate updates as they occur.

Miss Suzanne has been in contact via email with anyone currently registered for her Kindermusik with Suzanne program.

Zoom lessons are being set up for those interested.
