Here’s your Before Dress Rehearsal Checklist!
- Check the Showcase Newsletter Email. This will give you a bunch of needed information, including which performance your child is in and which rehearsal night they’ll need to be at. Please check the spelling of your performer’s name for accuracy in the playbill!
- Dance Dept: Do any needed sewing or alterations to the costume as specified by the teacher. Most costumes no longer require any sewing, but some may need minor alterations (tightening straps, for example). If you need assistance, please email us immediately and we will get you in touch with one of our in house seamstresses who can perform the service for a small fee (a $10 rush charge is added if less than 2 weeks is provided for the alterations).
- Drama Dept: Make sure you have the base of your costume, including any shoes/socks/accessories set aside. We will email you regarding anything your student might need.
- Music Dept: Choose a nice, dressy outfit for your performance; no jeans or flip-flops.
- Purchase tickets online. See the ticket tab for more information regarding tickets!
- Mark all items you bring to the theatre with your performer’s name. This includes all costumes, dance bags, shoes, headpieces, tights, music, scripts, etc.
Here is your At Dress Rehearsal Checklist!
Please note: Every effort will be made to move quickly, however please plan on it being a long evening.
It is nearly impossible to estimate how long the rehearsals will run.
- Dress Rehearsals are closed. Please, no visitors! One parent is allowed per performer.
The entire center section of the auditorium and the first seven rows of the side sections are closed during all Dress Rehearsals for our Photographer.
While we do not discourage quick phone photos and videos to be taken during Dress Rehearsal, please respect the space and work of our Photographer. Please do not expect them to stay out of your photos or videos. - Arrive at the Stoughton High School and be seated in the Auditorium by your call time. Please have your performer dressed in their performance outfit/costume for their first number with hair and makeup completed.
Pre-Professional Level & Company Dancers should arrive 30 minutes prior to call time to warm-up. - Are you a parent wondering what you need to do? No worries!
1) If your performer is under the age of 11 please do not leave them unattended.
2) Please get your performer to the band room (for dancers, 5 numbers prior to theirs) or seated in the auditorium (for actors and musicians at their given call time) ready to rehearse their performance. Please remember, absolutely NO MALES are allowed in any of the dressing rooms at any time.
3) Stay in the auditorium immediately following your performer’s number for any corrections or notes on their performance or their hair, makeup, costume, etc. If that number is their final time on stage, you may leave.
4) ABSOLUTELY NO food, drinks, candy, or gum is allowed in the auditorium, backstage, or in any of the dressing rooms (this includes in dance bags).
DANCE DEPT - Costume changes: You are responsible for your dancer’s costume changes, hair and makeup.
- Coverups: If your performer leaves the Backstage Area, dancers in costume must wear a cover up which remains on the entire time they are not backstage.
- Tights and Shoes: Please use the tights you were or will be given in class to be worn with your costume. If you have not received tights by April 15th please email office@stoughtoncenterarts.com.
For ballet numbers pink ballet shoes are required. For tap numbers black tap shoes are required. For jazz numbers black jazz shoes are required (for PPL/Co, you may have been specified otherwise). For hip hop, black jazz shoes are required, unless you were given specific shoes with your costume. - Makeup: All Makeup applied should be heavier than street makeup to be seen under the strong stage lights.
Blush – applied heavily to cheek bone. Lipstick – bright red please. Eyebrows should be penciled in if they are light. Eyes should have neutral eyeshadow (grays or browns), eyeliner, and mascara or false eyelashes. - Hair: We do what we call “Universal Hair”, meaning every dancer has the same hairstyle for every dance. This saves a lot of headaches in there are no hair changes needed throughout the show.
Hair should be slicked and pulled into a low ponytail and then wrapped into a bun just above the nape of the neck. Please use bobby pins the same color as hair (no barrettes). Use gel on slightly damp hair to prevent fly-away hair or wispies. Hair nets and bun makers are encouraged for a clean uniform look.
Barrettes or clipped hair pieces that come with the costume go against the bun on the dancer’s right side.
If you are concerned about getting your dancer’s short hair into a bun please see Miss Natalie or Miss Shadoe. - Costumes: Check to be sure you have all parts including any accessories or hairpieces and mark all with dancer’s name/initials!
Please hang up the costume to remove any wrinkles. Tutus should be hung upside down to prevent from drooping.
If sewing is needed please match color thread to costume. No safety pins are to be used.
No jewelry, dark nail polish, or underpants under tights.
