James A. Devor is an American composer, double bassist, and educator with a focus in classical, jazz, and folk music. He grew up in central Pennsylvania and has been playing the double bass and various other instruments since elementary school. James completed his master’s degree in music composition at the University of Hartford in 2023 and previously received degrees in music education and music composition from West Chester University of Pennsylvania. When teaching, he actively combines music theory, literacy, and improvisation with musical performance and allows students of all backgrounds to bring their personal musical interests with them to lessons. As a music educator, James believes it is vital that no matter what, students leave classes and lessons feeling supported and encouraged in their musical journey.
